The Origin Of The Norseman Name
While many believe the misconception that Norseman JMS was named after the Vikings that settled in L'Anse aux Meadows in approximately 985 A.D., Norseman JMS actually has a more recent inspiration for its name.
The name comes from the Canadian-made, single-engine bush plane called the Noorduyn Norseman, that was created by Robert Bernard Cornelius Noorduyn. The Norseman bush plane made its impact due to its incredible durability, versatility and ability to be known as the "workhorse" of the skies. The Norseman bush plane became incredibly important during World War II to both the Royal Canadian Air Force, and the United States Army Air Force, as it was used for transporting soldiers, supplies, and more through the most "rugged" conditions.
It only seems fitting that Norseman JMS was inspired to take its name from a plane that represents strength, courage, perseverance, and dedication, as the school itself serves to inspire its students with these same values.
